Millions of children are visiting their dentists for the reason that they are eating enormous amounts of sugar. The sugar leaves them with tooth decay problems, and the dentist will need to pull out their rotting teeth. There was a story lately, about a three-year-old boy, who had to experience 11 tooth extractions, for the reason that he was eating excessive amounts of sugar.

His dentist supposed that the sippy cup that the boy drank from was at all times filled with soda. But this is not a problem only in New Zealand. There are studies that confirm that men are supposed to consume no more than 9 teaspoons of sugar, and women no more than 6 on a daily basis.

To put things into perspective, 20 oz. of Coca-Cola has approximately fifteen teaspoons of sugar. This means that you will drink twice the amount that is suggested, just by taking this one drink. According to numerous researchers, the typical American consumes 23 teaspoons of sugar on a daily basis. That is three times the amount that is suggested for men, and four times the suggested amount for women.

Extreme soft drink consumption is a gigantic problem in America since it leads to an extremely high number of cases of eroding teeth. This is a problem that is known as “Mountain Dew Mouth” problem. The main cause for this condition is the citric acid that can be established in these soft drinks. It is a preservative that advances the shelf life and the flavor of the drinks, and it quickly erodes the tooth core as well known as dentin.

Added sugar should also be avoided since it can lead to insulin resistance and to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Insulin resistance leads to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome. It also significantly increases the risk of cancer. Sugar is in addition responsible for obesity and its development in adults and children. Because it is extremely addictive, it forces the people to crave more and more sugar. Childhood obesity has doubled in the last 30 years, and it has quadrupled in adolescents. This means that 1 in 3adolescents and children were obese or overweight.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obese young people have a much bigger chance of suffering from pre diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, sleep apnea and joint and bone problems. This, in some cases, results in psychological problems like poor self-esteem.

When those young people grow up, they are probably to have an enlarged risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, more than a few types of cancer and heart diseases. The New Zealand Dental Association states that the parents are supposed to only permit their children to drink water and milk so that they can avoid the tooth decay problem that comes as a result of soda.

The beverage industry brutally challenges these claims, since they don’t want to lose money. Watch the video below, so you can learn more about sugar-free sodas, and their dangerous ingredients:
