Pregnant doctor delivers patient’s baby just before giving birth herself

Pregnant doctor delivers patient's baby just before giving birth herself

A Kentucky doctor, who has already checked into the hospital to give birth to her own child, was back on call to deliver a baby of another woman first after the patient had last-minute complications.

Obstetrician Amanda Hess was getting ready to be induced for the birth of her second child when she heard suffering cries from another patient down the hallway.

Hess recognized the woman, Leah Halliday Johnson, since she had examined her a few days earlier. Hess was not the woman’s usual doctor, who was still on his way to the hospital.

And since the baby was starting to show signs of distress, Hess did what came naturally.

“I said, ‘You know, I’m not on call. I’m here in a gown, but I think we ought to have the baby,’” she evoked in an interview with NBC News.

Halliday Johnson said that she recognized Hess right away but had no idea that she was a patient herself.

“The signs were there. My husband observed that she was wearing a hospital gown, but at that point, I was so thankful to see one of my doctors that I was just prepared to move it along,” she said.

Leah Halliday Johnson holds the newborn baby delivered by Dr. Amanda Hess, who was just hours away from having her own baby.

Hess grabbed another hospital gown to cover up and slipped some cloth booties over her flip-flops. After that, she delivered Halliday Johnson’s daughter.

“The baby was perfect! Came out crying and screaming,” she said.

Hess hadn’t expected that she would be working on the day of her delivery, even though she had planned to work late into her pregnancy. Actually, she had delivered another baby the afternoon before.

“It was a 10-pound baby. I thought, this was the way to go out,” she said. “I was thinking, ‘A great big baby, I’m working up until the last minute!’ and then this came. I would never predict this. This is absolutely working until the last second.”

Hess began the medication for her induction only an hour later. She right away went into labor and gave birth to a healthy girl.

Halliday Johnson expressed gratefulness for what Hess did.

“It just shows you what a remarkable person she is, what a wonderful woman and mother and doctor,” she said.

Hess said the two women haven’t met since their deliveries, but she is certain that they will soon since Halliday Johnson is a patient at her practice. She, in addition, knows their daughters share “a special bond” since the circumstances of their birth.

Hess as well downplayed her actions, saying what she did were “absolutely more instinctual” than being worried about her own condition.

“I’m absolutely better at taking care of my patients than being a patient so it was so natural for me to go back into doctor mode,” she said. “Delivering other peoples’ babies is my everyday job. And I’m more comfortable when delivering someone else’s baby than my own, for sure.”

Centrist lawmakers plot bipartisan health care stabilization bill

Centrist lawmakers plot bipartisan health care stabilization bill
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

A coalition of approximately 40 House Republicans and Democrats plan to reveal a slate of Obamacare fixes Monday they expect to gain traction after the Senate’s attempt to revoke the law imploded.

The Problem Solvers assembly, led by Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) and Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), is fronting the attempt to stabilize the ACA markets, according to numerous sources. But other centrist members, counting Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), and more than a few other lawmakers from the New Democrat Coalition and the GOP’s moderate Tuesday Group are as well involved.

Their plan is focused on instantly stabilizing the insurance market and then pushing for Obamacare alterations that have received bipartisan backing in the past.

The most important proposal is financial support for Obamacare’s cost-sharing subsidies. Insurers rely on these payments – expected to be $7 billion this year — to decrease out-of-pocket costs for their poorest Obamacare customers.

President Donald Trump has over and over again threatened to cut off the payments, deriding them as a “bailout” for insurance companies. White House counselor Kelly Conway alleged on Sunday that Trump will decide “this week” whether to scrap the financial support — which could make the markets implode.

The bipartisan working group, in addition, wants to alter Obamacare’s employer mandate so that it is valid only to companies with more than 500 workers. At present companies with at least 50 workers can be strike with a tax penalty if they don’t offer coverage to their workers.

The group, in addition, wants to build a federal stability fund – dollar amount unspecified — that states can tap to decrease premiums and other costs for people with tremendously expensive medical needs. Both the House and Senate revoke packages contained comparable pots of money.

The bipartisan suggestion as well calls for scrapping Obamacare’s medical-device tax, an idea that has gained bipartisan support in the past.

At last, the working group is looking for greater flexibility for state improvement. Obamacare previously allows the state to look for waivers from coverage rules, but the lawmakers want extra guidance on how states can take advantage of them.

The roll out of their stabilization program follows months of private meetings between different members involved in the House’s centrist group about different ways to stabilize Obamacare if the GOP’s repeal effort sputtered.

The push was increased after the Senate’s revoke collapsed in the wee hours of Friday morning when Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and John McCain (R-Ariz.) joined with all Senate Democrats to reject the GOP’s “skinny repeal.”

Scientists reawaken memory in mice that had a condition resembling Alzheimer’s

Scientists reawaken memory in mice that had a condition resembling Alzheimer’s
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Forgotten memories have been reawakened in mice with Alzheimer’s disease. Thi is suggesting that Alzheimer’s disease may not destroy memories but as an alternative damage our ability to remember them.

It has been assumed for very long time that Alzheimer’s disease totally erases memories. The condition involves a bunch of proteins recognized as amyloidal plaques and tangles of tau proteins that build up in the brain, where they are considered to destroy the neurons that store up our memories.

However, experiments by Christine Denny at Columbia University and colleagues advocate that memories may not be destroyed by Alzheimer’s disease but just have harder access. What’s more, these memories can be revived by artificially activating the neurons they are stored in.

This discovery could be revolutionary, says Ralph Martins at Edith Cowan University in Australia. “It has the prospective to lead to novel drug expansion to help with retrieval of memories,” he says.

To study how memory is affected by the disease, the researchers developed a method of visualizing individual memories in mouse brains.

They engineered genetically mice with neurons that glow yellow when activated throughout memory storage and glow red when activated throughout memory recall. They created two sets of mice one set that was healthy and one with a state similar to human Alzheimer’s disease.

Both sets of mice got a memory test. First, they were exposed to a lemon aroma and given an electric shock. One week later, they were exposed to the exact lemon scent. The healthy mice right away froze in expectation of being shocked again. The mice with Alzheimer’s froze approximately half as often as the healthy mice, suggesting they didn’t remember the connection between the smell and shock so strongly.

This actions matched what the team saw in the mice’s hippocampus — the brain regions that stores memories.

In healthy mice, the red and yellow neurons overlapped, presenting that the mice were remembering the lemon-shock memory from the same place it had been stored. But in mice with Alzheimer’s mice, dissimilar cells glowed red throughout recall, suggesting that they were calling up the wrong memories.

This may help to clarify why people with Alzheimer’s disease usually experience false memories, Denny says. For instance, lots of people with the condition wrongly remember where they were during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The mouse experiments propose this may be for the reason that they are retrieving information from the incorrect brain cells.

Using a genetic engineering technique known as optogenetics, Denny’s team went on to reactivate the lemon-shock memory in the Alzheimer’s mice. By shining a blue laser down a fiber-optic cable into the brain, they were capable of stimulating the memory-storing neurons, prompting the mice to freeze when they smelled the lemon aroma.

This demonstrates that “lost” memories may stay in the brain and can be recovered.

Optogenetics is not a method that can be used in people since it isn’t yet safe or practical to mess with our neurons or stick lasers into our brains. But in the near future, targeted drugs or techniques like deep-brain stimulation possibly will help people with Alzheimer’s access their forgotten memories, Denny says.

The next step will be to verify that the same method of memory storage and retrieval is present in people with as in mice.

But there are by now clues that long-lost memories can be brought back in people with Alzheimer’s disease, Martins says. “Music is the best example, which has attracted a lot of attention as a way for retrieving memories of the past in these patients, so it makes sense.”

If Denny’s method does work in people, they could have wider applications. For example, helping witnesses better memorize crime scenes or students recall their study notes. We might even be able to tap into forgotten memories from our early childhoods.

Nevertheless, it’s improbable we could choose specific memories. Since we wouldn’t know which neurons they were stored in, and some neurons might hold multiple memories, Denny says. “You would not want to bring back bad memories, too.”

Tesco to cut prices on 100 women’s sanitary products and pay ‘tampon tax’ itself

Tesco to cut prices on 100 women's sanitary products and pay 'tampon tax' itself
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Supermarket says it will take action straight away rather than wait for VAT on products to be reduced.

Tesco will lower the price of approximately 100 women’s sanitary products by 5% and cover the charge of the “tampon tax” it self, the supermarket has publicized.

The seller will pay the tax that applies to sanitary products after saying that the price of buying the products was a “real struggle” for a lot of its customers.

Campaigners have called for a long time for the charge on sanitary products to be taken away. They are arguing that they are necessary items and should, consequently, be exempt from tax.

Last year, David Cameron influenced European ministers to alter the rules to permit VAT to be removed from sanitary products, but the change can’t come into result until at least 2018.

There was even an online petition that attracted 320,088 signatures. Until the tax is removed, ministers have dedicated to donating the profits of the tax to women’s charities.

Tesco said the 5% reduction will be valid to both its own-label products and better-known brands.

The supermarket had now committed to passing on the saving to customers if, as predictable, VAT is reduced on sanitary products in 2018. Nevertheless, it has now said it will decrease the prices of the products right away.

Tesco’s group brand director, Michelle McEttrick, said: “For a lot of our customers, tampons, panty liners, and sanitary towels are vital products.

“Nevertheless, the cost of purchasing them every month can add up.  And, for a lot of women and girls, it can be a real struggle on top of other crucial items.

“That’s why – as a modest help for our customers – we are lowering   the cost of these products by 5%.”

Campaigners cheered the move and asked other supermarkets to take on a similar policy. Labour MP Paula Sherriff, who was the leader of the campaign against the tampon tax in Parliament, said: “It would have been totally unacceptable if eliminating the tampon tax had just guide to big businesses boosting their bottom line at the cost of women buying what are vital goods, which is why we pressed the supermarkets to sign up to an agreement to pass the cut on.

“But this goes even a step further, by lowering prices right now. And I trust the other big retailers now think doing the same.”

The Government and the EU must make clear their timetable for reducing VAT on sanitary products completely, she added

Trump Ready To Cancel Health-Care Benefits for Lawmakers. Don’t Think He Won’t!

Trump Ready To Cancel Health-Care Benefits for Lawmakers. Don’t Think He Won’t!
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

The Congress just got threatened by President Trump. He is prepared to hit them where it hurts the most, and they deserve it. Saturday, the President tweeted:

It turns out that some of the members of Congress are not subject to Obamacare like the rest of the Americans, and if they do not get off their asses and pass a new HealthCare Bill very soon, President Trump is going to remove the loophole that allows Congress to be excused from Obamacare.

Can we hear a “HECK YES”?!?! (VIDEO BELOW)

That is just right! Anybody who doubts that the President will, in fact, follow through and do it, ought to have had their head in the sand for the past half year.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

Mr. Trump’s statement that came after the collapse in the Senate of Republicans’ attempt to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

For more than a few months, Mr. Trump has threatened to stop compensation to insurance companies—a fraction of the ACA—but his administration has paid them every time, including among important uncertainty in June and at a vital moment in GOP negotiations just one week ago in July.

The next set of payments, which total millions of dollars for insurers that have lower deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs for the poorest enrollees in exposure under the law also known as Obamacare, is due in three weeks.

Mr. Trump’s tweet came on the top of few others expressing his discontent that GOP senators are so far unsuccessful to team up around one single piece of legislation that would complete a shared campaign promise of revoking the ACA and passing their own set of proposals as an alternative.

Express

What is really crazy is the way Congress has been getting away with this, to begin with. This is an ideal example of another shady deal from the Obama administration. Here’s how the deception works now:

The Independent Journal Review writes:

In the FEHBP, under Section 8901(6) of Title V, the health plans are obliged to be “group” plans. So, no problem: OPM certified the DC SHOP swap, reserved for firms with less than fifty employees, as the health insurance exchange for Congress.

All Congress had to do was to in some way turn itself into a small business, with less than fifty employees. And, unbelievably, that is precisely what unidentified congressional bureaucrats did: They presented paperwork identifying every chamber of Congress as a small business, employing forty-five people each.

In other words, the Government is using its own loopholes to cheat it self! WOW! JUST WOW!

If you believe President Trump will stand by his word and in reality DO THIS, please comment and SHARE this with every Patriot you know.  Thank you!

NBC NEWS: By The End Of 2017 All Americans Will Receive A Microchip Implant!

NBC NEWS: By The End Of 2017 All Americans Will Receive A Microchip Implant!
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

NBC warns that by the end of 2017, all Americans will receive microchip implants. With the assistance of these microchips, the authorities will be capable of identifying the individual in a matter of milliseconds.

According to NBC, this revolution will be the reason for major concern, since people will ask themselves if they actually are who they say they are.

Other people’s worries are that with this improved and revolutionized RFID microchip, the federal government will grow to be even more influential. For the reason that they could see and observe our every move. In few states like Virginia, there is a legislation procedure in opposition to these implants. The people from NBC are obstinate in their state that the production process of RFID Brain microchip is now over and it is being tested on humans at the moment.

The utilization of this microchip in Bill H.R. 4872 can be exposed on page 1014 titled National Medical Device Registry, which tells about an implantable Class II device.

The RFID microchip permits the government to observe our motion, control our food and have power and manage our money. Some experts even consider that this extremely tiny device can kill the person which carries it.

The HR 3962 bill is a precise copy of HR 3200 bill with the major difference being that some words regarding the RFID microchip are tangential. The capability to implant microchip in every American is still likelihood and these statements can’t be taken lightly. Just gaze at the bill and read throughout 1501-1510, and pay attention to Class II special controls direction for FDA staff and then use your own judgment.

6 Effective Ways to Lose Weight With the “Hypothyroid Diet Method”

6 Effective Ways to Lose Weight With the “Hypothyroid Diet Method”
Share on FacebookPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

The thyroid gland has a role in regulating metabolism or the way our cells utilize the energy from food we consume. This, in addition, affects the way our body burns calories, our body’s temperature, and heartbeat.

There are two main thyroid disorders types, hypothyroidism, and hyperthyroidism.

The first one is the condition of underproduction of the thyroid hormone, and the most widespread symptoms include dry skin, muscle cramps, weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, depression, forgetfulness, irregular periods, constipation, and feeling cold.

Weight gain is one of the first signs of this thyroid disorder. Consequently, we propose 6 ways to improve the health of your thyroid, prevent weight gain, and balance your meals:

  1. First of all, you must start consuming healthy and learn about the unpleasant effects of refined sugar.
  2. You must stay away from the consumption of simple carbs, and products like flavored juices, table sugar, soda, packaged cereals, Corn Syrup Sweetened Products, and White Flour Products.
  3. Substitute simple carbs with complex carbs, as the body doesn’t process them too rapidly, and they will keep you full for a longer period of time. These include oatmeal, whole wheat, brown rice, raw fruits or 100% natural fruit juices.
  4. Start using coconut oil, since it contains healthy fats, not like other vegetable oils. The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil recover the function of your thyroid and recover the insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. You can take it 20 minutes before meals to avoid fat accumulation and to speed up your metabolism, or you can use it in cooking.
  5. You must start exercising frequently in order to help your body burn fat and boost your metabolism. Try some medium intensity exercises, in order to encourage the hormone production rate of your thyroid gland, and avoid weight gain. These exercises include walking, aerobic, running, and other cardio exercises.
  6. Try consuming only healthy snacks, which can replace regular meals and keep you full for a while. They can, in addition, help you decrease the calorie intake.

These tips are particularly beneficial in the case of an underactive thyroid:

—    Consume raw, unfiltered organic, and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, which will assist weight loss, reduce appetite, and balance your hormones. Add one tablespoon of it to a glass of water and drink it every day.

—    Eat more raw nuts since they are loaded with nutrients and healthy fats that boost up thyroid health. They are in addition high in selenium, which radically improves the thyroid function.

—    Increase the consumption of foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as high-quality fish.
